EW TV Review: "Human Wrecking Balls"
By: Dalton Ross - Entertainment Weekly
I've done it. I've finally found the dumbest show on television. And that show is "Human Wrecking Balls," airing on G4 Wednesday nights at 10:30.
The human wrecking balls in question are the Pumphrey brothers, Paul and Craig, who spend each episode doing things.
They pick something to destroy with their bare hands, in one case, a hotel room, and destroy it.
"We're going to use science to analyze how we break things," they mention at the top of the show; but let me assure you, no science whatsoever is used in this program.
So, basically, the science in question is the science of smashing a counter with your butt. Nice. Real nice. In their defense, however, the Pumphrey brothers have stumbled into, and through, as it were, a pretty sweet gig. They basically are getting paid to destroy stuff, which is every young boy's fantasy. C'mon, who hasn't wanted to tear apart a vending machine at one point or another? Who hasn't felt the urge to toss a toilet into a shower? Who hasn't daydreamed of hanging furniture on a wall?
But even if total destruction is your bag, it's kind of a bummer to see other guys having all the fun. Not fun, however, was the grand finale of the hotel demolition, which consisted of one of the brothers running top speed into a wall. Now call me old fashioned, but that just doesn't strike me as very smart. Throwing a refrigerator out of the window, sure, but running into a wall?
I suppose brains aren't the order of the day on something called "Human Wrecking Balls" – the dumbest show on television.
