"Saturday Night Live" alumnus Will Ferrell is going to play outgoing President George Bush in a one-man show on Broadway for eight weeks. NY1's George Whipple filed the following report.

"Saturday Night Live" alum Will Ferrell will be live again on Broadway, in the one-man show, "You're Welcome America" - a tribute to the administration of George W. Bush.

"It's kind of an obviously comedic look back at these last eight years with our president," says Ferrell. "We're going to find some things out, some factual stuff, some made-up stuff about his life. We're going to remember, celebrate and cherish our time with him as president."

The show begins previews at the Court Theatre on Barack Obama's Inauguration Day, January 20, and runs though March 15.

The show is directed by former SNL head writer Adam McKay, who is Ferrell's long-time collaborator on such films as "Talladega Nights" and "Step Brothers."

"I'm the less hot version of Tina Fey," jokes McKay. "We started at 'Saturday Night Live.' We were actually both hired on the same day but it probably wasn't until season two that we really started writing together a lot."

"It was joked that I thought Will was the straight man," continues McKay. "He had been hired to be the straight man because he seems like such a regular guy when you meet him. And in the first read-through, boom, he was doing all these characters and stuff. We both found that we both loved absurd comedy, that kind of led us to writing screenplays together and a lot of sketches."

Asked whether he will miss Bush as president, Ferrell says, "As a citizen, no! As a comedian, he's going to be tough to beat. I think he might be all-time one of the best material-producing presidents."

Ferrell has minted Hollywood gold, but how will he fare on Broadway?

"It's called a limited run, so buy your tickets now, please. So that it's not even more limited," says Ferrell.

"You're Welcome America" will also be shown live on HBO in March.
